Dear Fellow Dharma Brothers & Sisters,
I had a strange dream last night. I think this was an important dream but I do not understand the message. Could I get your feedback as to what it means? :

My grandma passed away this Christmas and I was very very close with her. She raised me from when I was a baby and I still miss her very much. I have not accepted the fact that she is gone. But last night I dreamed that she was inside my room and me and my brother were so happy to see her. She was invisible and we were talking for an hour. Then I started crying and I told her I wished she could come back to this world. She responded that she was here now in my room, in this world. And I said "You are not here. You are only here in my mind." Then there was silence. She just disappeared after I said that and I woke up.

What does this mean or trying to teach me? I've had a lot of auspicious dreams before but this time I do not understand the meaning.

Thanks  ???

Hi,

It seems like she has not been carnated.

Did she take refuge in our Master, may be u would like to do so.

I used to dream of the dead one, normally days before the ceremony(chao du fa huai) or days before their anniversary.

I will help them take refuge in our Grand Master and register them  for the ceremony.

Hope this help
;D

Yes I too drempt of people, who died, just before a ceremony.
lol That was how I knew a ceremony was coming up fast.
It was cool in that I didn't have to look at the temples schedule!!!
Then I knew to register for them and or take refuge for them.

that is so cool. Actually for me it happened two days after the ceremony which I did not go to. Maybe it's a reminder for the next one. Thanks  :D

Hi,

Just to add some words. Why get yourself caught in this illusion. It is just one of those attachment in your mind let it go as you yourself have said " You are not here, you are only here in my mind!"

Your mind is thinking of the subject consistently in the day thats why it manifest as dream at night. Thats how it came. ;)

Celestialmaiden

Antchun,
yes you have a point. I think both answers are right at the same time! Everything is an illusion.
Buddhafly02/05/02 at 14:40:05#9Re: Strange Dream
Antchun.
I highly agree that everything is an illusion, but there are those that do not understand that and may be caught in between worlds or those that need help.

Do you suggest that they not be helped?

I have never understood those kind of dreams but find them very interesting.  One of my closest friends I drempt of four years before meeting him.
I expect someday I will find an answer to it.  I do have some theories about time and space and about karmic connections, but yet to experience the truth behind it.  Until that day I will just go on enjoying our friendhip and then still enjoy our friendship.  :D

It is all illusion anyway therefore speculation is only in fun.

Hello all,
Yes I had another strange dream. I saw my grandma again for the third time. But this time I was in her house in Vancouver and she was wearing the same clothes as she was when we buried her! We were talking and she bought me food. I notice that I always have a dream of her whenever I burn her 'gold paper.' Then another time after I burned some 'gold paper' she took me to chinatown to buy groceries, probably cause she just received money! Staying home and going to Chinatown were her two favorite things when she was alive. The Bardo period will be over in 2 days (47 days so far). I wonder where she will go from there?!

This is a good dream!! It definitely implies that she has received the "gold money" or "paper money" (most people call it paper money). She is very gratified and came to thank you for it!!

a good sign!!

CelestialMaiden.
1.) You are able to feel negative vibrations and magnetic field sensations - links with ancestors.
2.) Advise leave it alone.

Second dream:

1.) Response from your ancestor due to your donation of gold paper.

2.) Registration for Bardo deliverance ceremony

hey everyone,
yes its good to keep our ancestors in mind and make offerings on their behalf so they can have fortunate births or gain affinity with the buddha dharma and in this case our Root Guru's...
i have also had a dream of a man who was dead for a very long time and he was very strong... i was not afraid of him even though he had his hand wraped around my neck, just before i woke up i asked him his name and he told me... but sadly a few moments after i was awake the name slipped from my mind and i have been sad about it ever since because had i remembered i would of added him to the next bardo deliverence... i have been thinking of him since and wish that if i do have another dream of him to be friendly and ill remember his name when i wake up... im not afraid of ghosts...

Cele,
i have a hard time with dreams and im not sure why... 90% of the time i dont remember them and to me it just seems nothing more then closing my eyes and then opening them a second later... nothing but empty blackness... so when i do remember my dreams they are hazy and its hard to remember them after i wake up they slip from my mind very quickly... its hard to explain... except for the dream i had with Grand Master in it...
as for the man i didnt recognize him but it might be because he wasnt pleasant to look as i remember... i did get the impression he was either trying to scare me or threaten me but i also felt that it was completely a bluff so i wasnt afraid just alittle aprehensive... thats why i calmly asked his name and he eagerly told me it... i still wish i could remember it... and maybe someday i will...
at the end of your last post you started really going off... are you ok? lol
id say to those people who beat the idea that life is an illusion into you, "if life is illusion then im an illusion loving another illusion so whats wrong with that?" lol
all my grandparents have past away and at each of their passings i didnt feel overly saddened... im not exactly sure why but there seemed to be many reasons... all of them lived to be old and they also had different health problems i figured they lived their life and now in death they have some release from having to suffer the hardships of this exsistence... even if that release is only for a short time its still release... so why be sad at their passing this is more of joy than sadness...
and bardo deliverence only makes me even more happy to practice since they can only "move up" from them and they are certain to find happiness... so how can i be sad?

Cele,
try to endure with everything you can... you keep holding on to his words... erase them from your thoughts and start new each time... they are getting too heavy to carry and you might hurt yourself...
what i noticed when people critize me, they are not talking about me they are talking about themselves or what they dont like in themself... so they think by speaking out that you are doing this wrong or not doing this right they are infact looking at themselves... try not to put so much "value" into his words when he speaks in this way to you...
some people feed off this type of verbal karma and i hate to say it but when it happens its because of our past negative karma... we need to stop the cycle right there and take it without saying a word in response and that will stop the cycle of karma so we wont have to keep dealing with it in the future... so please try to find ways to endure it... its not easy and dont be too hard on yourself if you slip up...
one trick might be simply attach his words to the buddhas and merge them together... the buddhas will smash his words into nothing... visualize at the moment he is saying them that they appear and allow them to not reach your heart where they can cause you the hurt that you feel from them...

Lyciss,
You are right, that he is pointing out things in himself when he criticizes me. So you think I should just ignore him right? You are right, it is so hard not to let those words get to me especially after a year or so. I will avoid him at all costs then....a little hard but I will try. I like your quote "smash his words" and how do I visualize that? Reading your post gives me words of encouragement, makes me feel a lot better...to have advice that tells me to endure it and not to retaliate cause it's really not in me...or what's best for me. Thanks.

maybe that person is there for a purpose -- to teach us not to be like that person. In other words, no matter how bad a person is, he is like a sort of a "teacher", as in, we learn not to be like him from him!

That is one way to interact with that person. As for confiding with that person, you should not confide in him in the future. This way, you prevent him from spreading, thereby reducing his verbal karma...

I know it is hard to forget a person's misdeeds. But just remember since that person is human, he will always make mistakes. Karma will eventually "repay" his deeds, and since he is a "teacher", as explained earlier, we should treat him as equal.

I guess it is very hard to endure. Don't worry-- always visualise Grandmaster at your crown and heart. He will give you strength

Cele,
you dont need to avoid him... this would be like saying there are beggers on the street, i will go down a different street to avoid them so i wont have to give them offerings... or say im not going to the temple because ill have to make offerings to the buddhas... we need to surround ourselves with people we have karma with so that it gets paid off... we must hear harsh words and remain silent... if you avoid its like avoiding to pay back a bank loan by skipping town... this doesnt get your dept paid off... Jessie is right by saying
Quote:

however there are some people we do need to avoid when we have such huge dept with them... like abusors or people who for no reason want to do as much harm to us as possible or have no care for our well being... to remain in their company would be more dangerous then any good can become of it... this is where good judgement comes in... the buddhas and even Grand Master have faced very extreme situations and dont try to avoid them...

   hope this helps
