This is the story about how I found Buddhism: This was during 1996, I was into the esoteric deeply, and I was very interested in channeling spirit guides.  I tried this myself and at my first attempt I found a false guide and I guess because of this experience I was unable to do it again.  My daughter was 10 at the time, and so I taught her how to do it.  She was very good.  It did not take her long before she was really channeling.  I was very excited, and I probed the guides with many questions.  This became a regular habit.

In the fall of 1996, we moved into a new house, and I continued my pursuit for answers.  A new guide, called a master teacher guide, came on the scene.  He called himself Zahoo, and he was very nice.  My daughter saw and spoke to him at various times without having to channel him.  We both became quite friendly with him and trusted him much.

It was not long before Zahoo started contradicting himself, and I became worried.  Strange things started happening around the house like knocking on the door and no one would be there, no footprints in the snow, many strange occurrences.  It was about this time that I had met a Buddhist.  I knew nothing about Buddhism, and was not really interested.  We began to talk and we invited him out to our house to visit.  I told him about what I was doing with my daughter and what was happening.

The three of us sat together on the floor and he said he was going to help us.  He showed my daughter a picture of Grand Master Lu, then he told her to do Armor protection, then asked her to go into a trance state, (this was something she did by activating certain chakras and using visualization techniques), and enter her sanctuary.  The sanctuary, I learned about by reading books on the esoteric, it is a place where things are very beautiful, and a person has their own seat there, and there is a gate surrounding the place, on the back end was our house, far off in the distance, and in the front, was a high mountain, that was far off in the distance too, where one could visualize the guides, surrounded in white light, coming from.  I found techniques in the book to insure that she would be protected.  There were initial guides to call upon first, called gatekeeper guides; they were to insure that no false guides could enter.  I was so sure she was safe.

At this point when I closed my eyes, I saw a face of a bull, looking very fierce and angry.  I told my new friend but he was too busy helping my daughter.  I later recognized this as possibly being Yamantaka.  Continuing with this, as she visualized herself being in her sanctuary he asked her to look around, to see if she saw a hole, or felt any wind.  This she saw and felt.  He asked her to visualize the hole closing up.  Then he asked her to call upon all of her spirit guides to show up.  He asked her to chant something and at doing this, Zahoo turned into dust.  There seemed, to her, as if a sigh of relief was felt from the other spirit guides.  At one point, I remember seeing her describing seeing Grand Master Lu there in a big white light and describing to us the hand mudra he was using, which was the Padmakumara Mudra.

The ordeal was over, my daughter felt in a state of shock, and she was very pale.  We began supper.  I began to feel very strange.  In addition, did not say anything.  I began to start "snarling" and I immediately felt a horrifying sensation in my solar plexus, I new I was going to be sick.  I quickly ran up the stairs to the bathroom and began to vomit.  When I turned around after and looked at myself in the mirror I saw a terrifying sight.  My face was all screwed up, and I was openly snarling.  I stood there in absolute horror, unable to move or talk.

Some time has passed, when my husband came upstairs to check on me.  He was unable to get any response out of me except when I said, with vehemence, to get the Buddhist man out of the house because he did not belong there.  My husband quickly called our Buddhist friend upstairs to help, as he did not know how to handle the situation.  Our friend asked who I was and I did not reply.  He started chanting lots although I do not recall what he was chanting.  I remember at one point grabbing the pendant he was wearing around his neck and nearly strangling him with it but something made me stop.  I remember being super strong as I was able to lift this heavy man up off the floor.  He asked me to visualize a calm ocean and to see a moon, I was unable to keep the visualization, although through this I somehow knew and was able to tell him what I was seeing when my eyes were closed.

He told the entity that was inside of me, that he could help it to go to a better place, shortly after; I saw a very large raven appear, with his wings spread out.  I told my friend this, and he said to look for a bow and arrow, this I found and described them to him.  It was made of what looked like leather and had flowers on it.  He said to shoot the bird with the bow and arrow.  I felt very reluctant, as this creature was seeming surrendering itself to me.  I finally did so, and shot the raven.

I felt much more calm and then, almost immediately, I seen a beautiful blue butterfly appear.  I was at awe of this beautiful animal for its beauty was unlike anything I had seen before.

The ordeal was over.  My stomach ached and I was barely able to walk.  I actually crawled down the stairs, which took sometime.  I made it to the couch, where my friend had me drink some water with some burned paper inside.  It tasted awful although I really could not complain after what I had just been through.  I slept on the couch.

The next morning, shortly after waking, I saw a vision of a very beautiful woman; she was dressed in white, with black hair piled on top of her head.  She had a beautiful smile on her face.

A few days later my Buddhist friend took me to his temple where he introduced me to a nun.  I told her what had happened to me and she asked me to described the Woman I saw.  I did so.  Then she took me to the shrine that was at the front of the temple and showed me a statue, and I immediately recognized the statue as being the woman I saw.  She told me this was Kuan Yin.  She brought me back into the office and told what “Om Guru Lian-shen Siddhi Hum” meant and me about Grand Master Lu.  I felt very happy.

My daughter and I started attending temple meetings regularly and in a little over a month, from my first meeting with the nun, my daughter and I took refuge in Grand Master Lu.  It did not take long before my husband took refuge also.  I learned much from my experience, such as I do not need to know the future, and never to do things at other peoples expense, i.e. my daughters.  I found a teacher, who provides me with a way to gain enlightenment and to cleanse my karma.  In addition, found a much healthier way of living my life.

Thank you Grand Master Lu.

Yours truly,

Brenda Poulin.  (Lotus Brenda)

Wow Brenda! That was breathtaking. In all my life, that is a very peculiar yet wonderful experience (except GM's stories) experienced by a fellow dharma sister. It was scary in so many ways yet had a good ending. Did you find out in the end what all of this meant?
Thanks for sharing your story  ;)

Actually I never did get a clear explaination about it.

Perhaps it would be a good idea.   :)
