Buddhafly03/09/02 at 21:39:20#1What is most important:
Purification of Thought
Purification of Mind
Purification of Speech?

celestialmaiden03/10/02 at 17:30:06#2Re: PurificationI would think you can't have one without the other. Since Buddhism is a path, I think you would start by purifying the speech, then your thoughts, and last your mind. You can't purify the mind without purifying the first two. Likewise you cannot purify your speech and not purify your mind. Therefore I think they are of equal importance.

You could look at it the other way -
If you work on purifying your mind, both speech and thought will be pure. How can you have impure thought and speech coming out of a pure mind?
On the other hand, if you start purifying your speech, the thought to purify your speech may be a pure thought; giving attention to that thought will be purifying your mind.
I think the main point is not to think that just pure speech is enough - that it is OK to have a mind crawling with junk so long as you keep your mouth shut. :-X

maybe Brenda meant:
purification of body
purification of speech
purification of mind (thought)?
I think purification of mind is the most impt because it will govern the way we act (which is "body") and the way we speak (speech). Yet, the path of cultivation is hard, one of the reasons being taht purification of thought is very difficult (given the nature of thoughts) -- hence, it is easier to start with action and speech first....
(heehee..that is why i am taking part in Singapore's meditation classes on Good Friday, cos my thoughts are all over the place!) ;)

jessie_seow03/12/02 at 22:17:43#5Re: PurificationActually when you think about it:
In Grandmaster's Book 152, it can be concurred that greed and ignorance are the result of the mind, with the body and speech as the harbinger and executor of that connection.... :o
even the stage of entering samadhi rests on the mind being able to visualise and to enter a stage of oneness...
Hence the imprtance of mind...
Lyciss03/22/02 at 22:07:27#6Re: Purificationive been appearing around the posts quite a bit... i enjoy the forum and ive learned and picked up many things reading all the posts... and i give some imput not to sound like a no-it-all but instead a perspective...
i have one for this subject...
lately one thing keeps poping up in my thoughts, Equanimity... starting with, if you think about it, will solve, mind body and speech all in one and at the same time... and a good way to start practicing equanimity is by seeing the root to why people do the things they do... everyone is seeking to be happy or content... this is their motive... but no body knows a good way to achieve it and in their pursuit of it, they tend to cause problems for the people around them... looking at people in this light, will give you the ability to back up and since you know their motive... you now have the ability to step aside, or help out, if it wont cause further harm... or you could redirect their action... give it a try... hope this helps anyone who understands it... if anyone has questions about it...feel free to ask... or even expland on it!! :)
