In addition to what the GM said about setting up the shrine.

Is there a auspicious direction, (ie North, NE, SE, SW, etc) that the BACK of the Shrine or Buddha Statue to Rest on?

Or it doesn't matter as long as it is flanked by 2 walls, etc, as described by the GM?

1.) Three sides means three supports, back and sides.
2.) Shrine direction (if possible) is the auspitious direction of the practioner.

Brenda,
but what if its simply not possible to have supports on all three sides or in our favorable compass direction? i have also seen that some paticular practices requires shrines to be set up in certain directions depending on its cultivation purpose... for example the Ksitigarbha shrine that i posted in another thread... it says on a south wall or in a south room of the house and this might not be favorable for compass direction or have proper support so what should we do?

In the matter of where to put you shrine I don't believe direction matters as much, but that the shrine is in the correct room or space of where you feel the most energy or better yet a Wealth Corner. Greatly depends how much faith you put in Feng-Shui as the wealth corner itself is the part of the room where the best energy is located. I would recommend picking up one of the Guru's book on the topic. Another way that I went as well was through my local temple to get the monks advice or bring them out to the house. I pray that everything turns out well!!!! Om Mani Padme Hum!!
