I, a "newbie", am wondering what other non-Chinese speakers do for chanting in group practice and cultivating at home...

Have you memorized all the common things in Chinese so you can chant with everyone else in group practice?

At home, for those things that can be done in English, do you use English, or use the Chinese you memorized so you could chant in group practice?

Things like the dedication of merit and the HighKing Kuan Yin Sutra - at home do you read or memorize, English or Chinese?

thank you

Hello Dance.
(Me out using high speed internet tongiht)  Cool! ;D

In answer to your question, concerning myself, I have memorized common things in Chinese. Anything real large I do in English or if the translation is not available I do not chant but hear and feel it in my heart.
I prefer doing things like the Great Compassion Mantra with the group in Chinese and always.  I prefer doing the High King Avalokitsevara Sutra in English, both at home and in group, same with dedication.

I do not have any big practices memorized as I have a poor memory.  I usually just carry around my practice book.

My daughter used to do the High King Avalokitesevara Sutra in Chinese and the practice at the temple in Chinese as she was more comfortable this way.

Personally I think it's the intention that counts.
