I am considering to go to US to take refuge directly from GM Lu ! He visited me at 14 Aug 2002 8am morning few seconds after wakeup, read my posts on other folder !
Few questions:
1. Is it possible ? He must be extreme busy, and have-no time for one person, if somehow I can't follow the mass ceremony
2. Goto US is difficult since 911, and expensive, and I'm working ! So I can't stay long, and must prepare carefully !
Any advices on these:
A. ADDRESS on destination where I can stay as close as to the even where GM direct lead the ceremony ?
B. Estimation of TIME of refuge ceremony ?
I have no special reason to take refuge directly from GM, don't know why ? jsut insist, nuts ?

VS - Yes, it would be nice to take refuge directly from Grand Master, and the old books certainly make that sound like a possibility - just drop by Seattle, etc.
However, GM is not here now, and hasn't been for a little while - he is on retreat elsewhere (not in USA), precise location not public at all. We eagerly await his return, but we do not control GM.
Right now all empowerments are remote or by proxy. You can get empowerment "directly" (but remotely) from GM by writing to the Seattle / Redmond address as described in the written literature, or by proxy at a local temple where another Master will establish the lineage connection between you and GM. Either way works.
For my part, I must have some funny karma - I have lived in this area for almost 16 years, heard some very vague things about some temple somewhere in Redmond, but never actually made it to visit until GM was already gone. I have never met him (in person), but am surrounded by people who have. So GM has a strong presence here, but I am sure you will find similar situations in other temples too.
The time required for the actual ceremony as it is not major - at the end of group cultivation (that is the time-consuming part), there is a short ceremony for new people taking refuge.
I am glad you are ready to take refuge and start the practises with empowerment, but please don't wait until GM is in Seattle!

I FEEL* (can'see) that remote/proxy empowerment might not ENOUGH power to overcome 'it*' AND I MUST stand at the soil that belongs to GM Lu, can't other place !
But it is just a feeling* can't prove any thing ! Preparation started, regardless uncertain ahead ! ;)
