Brenda,
I heard that Master Tige went to Edmonton either yesterday or today. Did you get a chance to see him?

Steven04/11/02 at 00:00:17#5Re: The Four Heavenly KingsLyciss,
Thanks so much for posting the info on the 4 Heavenly Kings. I have been wondering with great curiosity for many years now just exactly who those Devas were? I asked at the Purple Lotus Society but the only answer I got was that they were Dharma Protectors.
I can't answer any questions regarding practices because I don't know of any. But I do know that each Heavenly King is setup in specific directions. I usually visualize the King with the Sword protecting me from the North, the King with the guitar protecting me from the East, the Dragon Holding King from the South, and the Umbrella holding King from the West. Is this the proper method to visualize them? I don't know, but I've been doing it for the past several years.
There is some Chinese writing adjacent to these pictures. I don't know if you can see it on the pix posted on the internet. I think the writing gives a little explanation regarding each Heavenly King and the direction he resides in.
These Dharma Protectors, I'm not sure how they work, but the one with the sword was the one I tried visualizing at first and for some reason he always skipped out of my mind. For 9 or 10 months straight I failed miserably. I could not even visualize his crown! I did have some success though. The Heavenly King with the Umbrella kept popping up. Whenever I tried to visualize the King with the Sword the first thing that would pop into my head was the King with the Umbrella.
I did not know know he was holding an umbrella until several days ago when I read the article. It has been perhaps 5 years now since I started. (I always thought it was a big fancy funny looking sword). In any case, I steadfasly refused to visualize the King holding Umbrella because I thought his "sword" was funny looking so I tried visualizing the King holding the dragon because he looked "neat". I had no success with this either, so I started visualizing the heavenly King with Umbrella and now I am quite familiar with his features.
After reading the article I can understand why I can visualize the King with Umbrella better than the others. The umbrella of the Knowledgeable Heavenly King signifies "the preclusion of distractions and contamination, so that one will not be misled by the deceptive information and false views of the outside world when seeking knowledge." This allows us to be pragmatic and honest in our moral cultivation and handling of daily affairs. For me, this was the best fit as I was just starting out on the path and my initial knowledge and understanding was poor (actually it still is, but that's for a different topic for another day).

jessie_seow05/05/02 at 04:03:48#8Re: The Four Heavenly Kingsyou need empowerment for the four heavenly king cultivation.
Grandmaster once wrote about the cultivation in one of His books -- I can't remember which book exactly, but it is a book where He outlined in detail, the cultivation of 21 BUddha repentence, Da-Wei-de Jing Gang, and other Dharma protectors. Hope u can find it...
I hope my memory serves me well. It is one of HIs early books.
