On Monday, our temple did a Kuan-Yin Mara prevention and Disaster Avoidance practice. Master Tige gave a dharma talk afterwards. These are the following points:

He said that Kuan Yin Bodhisattva is worshipped not only in Tantric Buddhism but in Mahayana Buddhism because she is so compassionate. (If we look at every Buddhist temple regardless of sect, there is always a statue of Kuan Yin) Even many people that aren't Buddhists know of her so there is an affinity. He said that Buddha Sakyamuni could count the number of raindrops in a season and could count the number of leaves fallen in the world but that Buddha Sakyamuni said himself that he could not count the merit of Kuan Yin Bodhisattva. Master Tige also explained the meaning of the 6-syllable mantra:

Om - resembles the sound of the 'hing' (looks like a black bowl dharma instrument - I forgot the english name, sorry ;D) Om represents refuge in the Buddhas and Bodhisattva's.

Mani - the six types of merit: health, wealth, etc.

Padme - meaning lotus. We pray so that we will have a lotus waiting for us when we die.

Hom - Anything that we wish for will come true.

Master said that because the 6-syllable mantra represents all these things, it is a great mantra and is recited worldwide. When we recite the 6-syllable mantra, the mantra wheel will rotate and seal the doors/entrances to the 6 realms of transmigratory existence.
Grandmaster had also wrote about the meaning of Om Ah Hom.

Om - Universal

Ah - Light

Hom - Attainment

Om Mani Padme Hom

Thanx Luljeta for all your comments and for reading my posts.
I will try my best to reiterate dharma talks by cantonese or english speaking masters! hehe I am a Canadian-born Chinese so my chinese isn't the greatest and the dharma talks are a lot more touching coming from the master but I will try to refine my stories.
Thanks Again,
Celestialmaiden

P.S. I'd also like to thank you everyone at the Padmakumara forum for providing me with knowledge, guidance and advice so I don't have to feel so alone on the cultivation path. Your kindness is uncountable!!
