mimosa04/06/02 at 16:46:30#1Tom and I are working on a few behind the scene project. Most works will be done by Tom, I sort of just got Tom started.
- All translated GM's books will be on padma site. I found the links and have given to Tom (Tom)
- Advance Instant Message (Mimosa)
- a new chat room (Mimosa)
- Promote the sites (Tom and the team)
- Publish mudra and translate to English (Tom and Mimosa)
- publish mantra and translate to English (Tom and Mimosa)
- publish audio mantra and translate to English (Tom and Mimosa)
- New log report (Mimosa)
I will be working a little bit slower than tom...because I also have proofreading to do...
If Arica and translation team can do the translation part, I think that it will greatly unload some of my work.

I've got all these clips already...
I've also got a page on TBSN (unreleased) with all the mantras on.
If you get permission, it'll be no problem.
Next week I'll be able to spend a couple of undivided days to clear some of the back log (it's a lot of pages to each book y'know!) and then I'll start on some of these more glamorous bits.

risingDragon04/10/02 at 05:29:53#3Re: On-going Project on WebAre you ready to swith to geek mode? OK, well here goes...!
A web page is often made up of many files and these will each be a seperate request. There is a HTML page (1 request), any images that are on the page (probably around 10 on average) and any programming code files. So requests is a lot less meaningful for you guys than page requests which is the HTML pages only. This information is best viewed in the summary, monthly and daily summary reports.
Also worth noting is the Distinct Hosts Served in the General Summary. This shows how many webservers have connected to our server and gives you the minimum number of visitors.
The total number of visitors will be somewhat higher as for example many of the AOL users will be connecting through the same webserver and so only show as one host.
The averages I'm seeing right now are that around 300 pages are viewed a day by over 60 visitors. That is pretty good as it means each visitor is really getting stuck in and reading an average of five pages.
Once we've gotten more links set up we should see this improve dramatically, most sites mushroom 3 - 6 months after release.

Well Done! Arica and everyone in the Padmakumara Translation Team....all of you will receive well-deserved and unfathomable good merits for promoting the True Buddha School and the Tantric Dharma Teachings of Grandmaster.
Best wishes for a Happy and Blessed Lunar New Year to all !!!

--------------
Thank you James brother
We wish you a Happy and Fortunate Golden Horse Year too.
I hope you can help us in the future with the e-books format similar to those that you have done for TBSN.
Once we have a book completed, please render us your help. I will definitely get in contact with you.
Thank you. A blessed "Year of the Horse" to all.
--------
Please let me know once the completed books are published on the website. I will then convert them into ebook format which is just another media for those who find this format convenient.
I would be glad to render my service in whatever way I can to propagate the True Buddha School Dharma teachings as taught by Grandmaster.

Are we about there now? I would love those e-books! Is Jame's help still offered.
I also, sitting here wishing, wish for a different print option that just prints the main content - especially for the translated works. I believe now, unless I am just too non-geek, when you print from the main web page (not the discussion forum) you end up printing the article/chapter and the stuff to the left and the right (buttons, what's new, heading). Of course I could print after doing copy/paste into Word, but there must be an easier way. Is it difficult to get a "printer friendly" version of the article/book.

Good suggestion. I will let Tom answer the "print-friendly" version.
However, I think that we should only offer "print friendly" version to those books that are not for sale. If the books are for sale such as the annotated True Buddha Sutra,
Inner World of Lake... we should just buy it. I think that you would agree with me, even printing friendly versions are hard kept.
PLS told me that they have an upcoming project to convert all the practices and some books to PDF formate. That will make people life easier!!!! However, I am not sure about the progress. Now, you ask, I will check again. Thanks for asking!!
Tom and I are working on a new surprise for our readers!
It will make purchasing books sooo much easier!!

mimosa04/13/02 at 23:11:21#6Re: On-going Project on WebThanks Tom's geeky talk. I hope that you all get it.
So, the pages requests are not importants. Some programs call requests as "hits". For example, TBSN has "3 millions" hits before I left. It doesnt mean 3 million people coming to the site. When "hit" or "request" translates to Chinese, it is really confusing!!
Tom gave an idea what to look for. We should just look it again at the end of the month.
For our site, how do we measure our success
#1 when someone reads our site and decides to take refuge!
there is nothing more rewarding than this
#2 when someone writes a thank-you letter to us
#3 when our site is referred on other resources as a must-go site for GM's teachings
#4 when our distinct and page request continue to increase, it means that people are using our site
you get the idea. As an non-profitable site, that is how we measure success.
