Dear Team
For the past few days, I have been emailing to some of you regarding your new translation assignment. Thanks all for taking up the challenging tasks! I would like to talk about our objective and strategy for Phase III. In Phase I, we started up the website and gathered translators. In Phase II, we built a professional website and now in Phase III, our real goal will start to emerge!
In phase III, I would like to introduce the “Peer Supporting” program. One of the most common problems in the translation is to understand the difficult Chinese poems and Buddhism phrases. If translators cant understand the Chinese poem, how can editors help out? The new “Peer Supporting” program will be as such: If a translator can not translate some difficult Chinese, he can post it online. Someone may translate to simpler Chinese. Then, translator can translate to English. Editors now can jump in to rephrase to beautiful English. Through the process, we can learn from each other and reduce the workload. If the program succeed, we can translate GM’s books much more efficiently and accurately. I can not setup this program alone. I will definitely need your support and help. I will talk more about it later.
When I first visited GM, I harbored strong doubt and hatred to Grand Master(long story), GM tamed my heart and demonstrated 3 transcendental powers to me. That last one was the wisdom of equanimity—All beings are equal, We should regard all beings as Buddhas. Since all beings are equal, GM’s teachings should be available to all as well. His precious talks and Dharma should be learned and practiced for those who wish to take refuge in him.
I wish to lead the Padmakumara Translation Team to continue Master Kumarajiva’s endeavor. When Master Kumarajiva was alive, he organized a team of translators and translated numerous sutras and Buddhism Canon that we are reading today. Without his team and his aspiration we will not understand the essence of Buddhism!
Let’s repeat the history! In the past, translators or editors have been working alone. That has not got us too far, hasn’t it? We have to work as a team. In phase I, I introduced the “tier-structure” (translator->editor->proofreader), which has produced us some excellent works. I want to give my sincere thanks to Editors, who I have abused the most.(I didnt directly interact with translators before) You all have done well. I am very proud of you. In the Phrase III, please work with me to build the peer-supporting program. This program will help us to gather more translators and levitate the fear for translators.
We are about to create a miracle! We are making the history! In the future, all sentient beings will be reciting and reading the books you and I working on today! Let’s create the history!
