Just found out from my colleague that I accidentally stepped on another colleague's toes -- seems like she thinks i drastically changed her design (we were doing some web design stuff).

I think all i did was to increase the focus-ness of the pages by removing some distracting design elements...

Anyway, I feel bad that she is feeling unhappy. I think I hurt her ego... I wanted to apologize, but I don't have the courage to do so because the incident happened so long ago and only recently came to light...I think I will treat it as something inconsequential...

Makes me wonder about myself. I once felt hurt when people change my work, but I realise that it is nothing since it is just an ego thing...

Jessie.

I can only tell you what I would do.
As I am a practioner, I recognize others are not aware of their ego's, therefore I would definitly apologize no matter how long ago it was.
If it came to light again for me, if I didn't apologize at first, I would see it as a opportunity for rectifying a wrong.

I think that it will be even worse for me. As a proofreader, I have never hesitated to change anyone's stuff. In fact, if my Editor is hesitated to make any change, I get a headache.

Jessie, in a professional environment, when people work as a team, the outcome of the product is far more important than personal glory. When I was a hiring manager, I'd rather hire a team player than a super genius. It goes the same in evey company.

I dont think that you need to apologize, you will just embarrass her. However, if you have  a chance to see her other works, give her some compliments :-)  The rule of thumb is to give compliments first and then ask people to make amendments for a better result. Then, the person will understand it better. If you just change it without giving compliment and showing your appreciation, it will hurt others's ego. Sometimes it is not just ego, it is like that you dont appreciate their hardwork.

:)

actually, we were given a project to do some web publication -- but we had to show some draft pages on paper first...

that's why i wrote "we were doing some web design stuff" -- dunno how else to say it... My colleague came up with designs on paper that is unfeasible for web publication, that's why i deleted lotsa of input.

sigh... actually, i dun know very much html, enuff to impress people in a non-web-publication enivronment... haahaahaaha

dunno whether that is good. heehee

I can only tell you what Brenda would do!

If it were me, or someone like me, I would want to feel I was doing what I was doing because it was the best thing to do, not because I wasn't sure if I had the courage to do what I suspected was really the right thing to do.  If I thought I didn't have the courage to apologize, and ended up thinking that there really was no reason to apologize, I would wonder if I was coming up with that reason just so I wouldn't have to apologize.

Well, I have to go now, and apologize to Mimosa for giving her a headache!

#apologize to Mimosa for giving her a headache

It is very difficult to establish a good working relationship. When I say that I get a headache from editors, I dont mean to put anyone down. It really needs to take time to develope the editing style that both editor and proofreader agree upon.  Sometimes I dont know how to get my point across.  A lot of time I am not sure if I am at the right track, so Editor's feedback is very valuable.

Besides, you are a good Editor. what are you talking about :-)
apology is not accepted. But, please take my "thank you" for helping out the team !

Perhaps this is a cultural thing then. :)
