Dear all, actually, this is an email I sent Brenda asking for some feedback... after some discussion, we decided that this email should be made available to internal members so that they could give feedback or help benefit others.

(edited to make more clear)

*******************************
I had just finished a three-day course, when I met this person with whom I exchanged pleasantries. and then, the inevitable question, "what do u do during free time?"

I said feebly: "read sutras of buddhism..." (I was trying to  reveal very little without lying)

He was surprised and started saying that although he is an atheist, he reads buddhist texts too, but he is more interested in techniques of breathing and visualistaion during his meditation. He was talking about cosmic powers and lights and stuff like that

I was quite curious because if he is an atheist, how can he practise something that sounds so tantric buddhism. So I asked him whether or not he is under any guru, or anything like that.

He said there are two types of gurus: one inside him, one on the outside. He believes the one on the inside will connect with the cosmic powers and will guide him; external guides would be masters, etc who come to give regular talks at his centre (he calls it "Healing Centre").

He said someone with higher insight within his congregation told him he has 11 guides who are always helping him. He said, right now, he is onto healing meditation -- he would visualise green light enveloping him as a form of protection from some divine power up there, and how this green light will eventually reach his root chakra and spins. He also said that green lights would manifest beside his body and enter...

He started telling me about something about rainbow meditation which i gather is meditation on various colors. (because he was saying about visualising violet lights, then yellow lights, blue lights etc in sequence, from the divine up there giving him the energy)

I was quite shocked because, if he doesn't have a guru, all these guides may not be the correct ones. And green light is definitely not something to trifle with... anyway, I outline how different my meditation practice -- that one should always has a guru as a form of a teacher.   I illustrated my point with how different my process of entering samadhi is..I was trying to put across the fact that guru is impt without offending him about his practice, but he seems very fixed on his ideas about two types of gurus. He seems convinced that one is a guru by himself and that the cosmic planes movement can affect the trials and tribulations that one experienced throughout life... (anyway, I should never have revealed my meditation practices to other people -- cos it is a secret, is it?)

Anyway, I just wanna highlight that there are lots of practices out there which appears right, but are actually not.I thought I would ask anyone here, who has knowledge of such practices. 'Cos to me, such practices misguide people and could cause damage, esp not all entities out there may not be "nice".)

I remember Grand Master said that there are gonna to be practices around which would not be "true" ...

I am quite concerned..anyway, he started drawing some mandalas for me because he said he could feel some psychic connection with me. Quite touching because he actually took the trouble to draw, but I don't think it's right..the mandalas looks weird...

Anyway  after the course, I thought I would not approach him or anything. Even though he is in the same
environment with me, and I would inevitably see him even though we are in different departments.

Interestingly, this inclident happen after I made vow to GM that I would use TBS practice to "save" sentient beings. Talk about timeliness...but I don't think I can do anything because  he is so closed-minded...I think I will leave everything to GM...GM will know how to reach him!

(I didn't  want to put this in public brecause I am afraid because this man uses the web quite often and would find this entry).

brenda's reply :

Hello Jessie.

I have encountered this before several times.

If I am correct, the "Rainbow Meditation" may be putting him in
touch with these "so called guides". Perhaps not.

Grand Master Lu's practices are on the net, so anyone can see
them if they want, but without refuge they cannot get any response.

Jessie, they are loads of courses and groups like that that can be harmful.

The way I look at it is sometimes people need to experience the dark before they can see the light. Please ignore the Mandala's he drew for you.  His methods can seem
appealing although please do not experiment.

He may just feel a psychic connection with you.
1). Especially if these "guides" are around him they would be
able to perceive a light from you.

2). It could also be a karmic connection

3). He could be attempting to pull you in.

If he cannot see these guides there is a great danger for him.
If he can see them in meditation, they can easily disguise themselves.

Please do Armor Protection if you decide to meet him again.

It is unlikely that you would be bale to reason with him regarding guru's as it seem's he is in rather tight with this stuff.

1). I would suggest to leave it alone, or invite him to your
temple.  If he would have an opportunity to meet with a Master he could see something more tangable.  Just let the Master know beforehand what he is into and that he will need "proof" that your Master can see more than most ordinary people.

I do not know what Master is there now, but I do know Master Lian Zhi will be there this fall.  She is very good at this.

2). I woud suggest also that you pray to Grand Master Lu to Guide him especially in him dreams.

3). Please do not spend much time worry about him.  You do need to continue with your practice without distractions.  Perhaps this encounter is attempting to tell you
something.

If you can take a step back within the next few day, and think of Grand Master Lu's teaching, then you may discover what.

You can also post under internal.  Our other Dharma brothers and sister can learn and help as well.

I hope this helps.

i have asked my dad to burn the mandala and the little cards that guy persisted in giving me during the entire session of the course... My dad (also a TBS disciple :) ) is quite good at chasing away  "anything" that may reside on those cards or mandala...

yah, brenda, that guy did say he saw lights from me... and he said that there is a reason why we met..

anyway, i dun seriously take in all these comments...and he kept asking me whether i slept well the night before...gosh, luckily i did boundary protection... maybe i am being paranoid, maybe i have too much fears about such things...or maybe he meant well... I really dun know...i have no experience dealing with people who suddenly come up to you like tat...

weird....

i will dedicate merits to him at the end of my cultivation by asking Grandmaster to reach him. I will probably visualise Hayagriva Vajra Protector shining blue light on that person to help him

Very interesting experience...
however there is 1 major thing that alarms me about this person that obviously should be reconsidered about his practices...

*If he says hes atheist, what are his goals for such practices? atheists from what i understand dont believe in spirituality and spiritual growth, let alone stating there are guides within him who are "teaching" him these practices... this simply doesnt make sense... how would he account for them being there? the other part of that seems wierd when he mentions the need for "protection from some divine power"... ive simply never heard an atheist talk about divine powers and this is the first...

in my opinion i think this guy is completely bogus... because his statements dont stack up very well... and probably the only "guides" he has is a really vivid imagination... and if he is on the side of light and good... how come he has created such distress in you...

the only other thing i can think of is i dont fully understand your story of experiences with this person and all that was talked about and for me when i meet such people i have a system of questions that i ask to determine their honesty... (i would make a great detective)

yeah...you'd make a great detective  :)  lol

i learnt a lesson: not to tell people too much, unless we have determined their honesty

{lyciss}: the only other thing i can think of is i dont fully understand your story of experiences with this person and all that was talked about

we worked under the same company, but we are from different depts within the same company...so, we had this seminar or workshop thing where we happened to meet, and the conversation just started like that...

the feeling im getting is something in these lines...

you mentioned something about your practice...

          he mentioned he was atheist-

          you souned more interesting-

atheists dont do anything interesting like our practices

          it sounded intriging to him-

so he started making stuff up to sound (interesting)
like you- (a sort of challenge of sorts)

this is the only way it would make sense to me... how do i know? i use to do similar things to try and sound as impressive as the person i was talking to... but all it did was cause lots of problems...

its possible that he has read some things on buddhism but perhaps not enough because he isnt a buddhist or doesnt feel that it suits him totally... i experience similar things when i meet new people and the topic of buddhism arrises because its such a huge aspect of my life its bound to come up... and the things i talk about tend to arouse curiosity and amazement... when that happens people may sometimes question their own life path and perhaps feel at that moment, empty handed...

maybe im reading too much into all this... but to put things in a great perspective... no matter what sort of achievement this guy has, and lets say his intentions are negative... you have a major protective force behind you... so its not worth the worry or letting your mind be disturbed by his concepts or ideas...
