Lately, there are some discussions on how to recite a mantra. On the Chinese forum, one guy proposed a strict and impractical way of reciting a mantra. He said that one should always recite the mantra in the shrine, recite a certain number per day, and not to think of anything while reciting the mantra otherwise all efforts will become futile. I could not help but rebuke his remark. I even called Seattle Temple to verify my thought before posting my messages.

First of all, there are two way to recite a mantra. One is to recite it in the shrine; another one is to recite it outside of it. If you are facing a tough time in your life, you need to  recite the mantra in front of the shrine. The full concentration and tranquality is what you need to calm yourself down and  visualze Buddhas rediate lights to solve your problems.

Another one is to recite the mantra outside of the shrine. While you are walking or waiting, that is the best time to recite the mantra. Don’t recite the mantra while you are talking, watching TV, or eating! I hope that is a common sense to you. In the morning I wake up, I visualize the Deity above me, radiate light, and start to recite the mantra. I recite the mantra throughout the day.

I remember when I first recited a mantra, many people told me, “Well, but you didn’t recite the mantra in front of the shrine.” I then asked the person, “So, how many mantras have you read in front of the shrine?”. The person would reply, “Well, well, I am too busy..” You see, that is exactly my point. How many people have time to recite the mantra in the shrine? After a while, those people start to learn from me and hold the counter to recite mantra everywhere they are.

I have recited the mantra both inside and outside of shrine. I took about 10 years to finish my 10 million mantra. I always had counter with me.  Especially when I am depressed. I diverted my attention to mantra recitation. After my 10 million mantra, I don’t use counter anymore. I thought that I should just rely on my heart, but that is very hard. Counter is a good reminder tool.

Mantra recitation has totally changed my life and saved my life from couple of deaths. I really wish that you will enjoy the same bliss I have. Pick up a counter today and start to recite. The first million is hard, but after that you can not live without reciting the mantra.

I told others to start their million mantra recitation. They also have their own spiritual responses! Join us to enbrace the wonderful and indescrible pleasure of mantra recitation!

When I said, "Deity", I dont mean the Personal Deity. I meant the Deity of the mantra you recite for. In your case, the Deity will be "Vajrasattva"

Congratulations!! You will find differneces and changes to your persona life!!

hey, Mimosa.
was wondering what u meant when u said that the mantra saved your life 2 times?  can u elaborate on that if it is not too personal?  thanks.  i don't know whether i had spiritual responses yet.  all though there was one time when i felt like something coming out of me when i recited the vajrasattva mantra.  something as in like a balloon expanding out of me.  don't know what that was.  thanks.  u needn't answer if it is too personal.

Hello Ethan.

1). Have you taken refuge in Grand Master Lu?

2). After taking refuge, you can write to Seattle, or if you are in an area where there is a Master they can give you empowerment for both practices.

3).  Both practices need empowerment.
