I just bought a statue of Vajrasattva so I can begin the Vajrasattva yoga.  Do I need to get the staute consecrated by a monk?  And what is the proper procedure to get it consecrated?  How long will it take?

Also in the Vajrasattva practice where it mentioned the Great Compassion Mantra water to be prepared ahead of time by chanting over the water 49 times, can we prepare "bulk" like one gallon and use a little each time?   If that is not possible, chanting 49 times  to prepare the Great compassion water seems to take too long for each Vajrasattva practice.

Hello.  I asked Master these questions and her reply was:
All statues, etc must be consecrated by a Master not a monk.
It doesn't take long at all.

Also regarding making Great Compassion Water in bulk, the answer is yes!  :)

:)
Lyciss was telling me that if you are far from a temple/Master, you can have statues consecrated by sending a picture of the statue.

I am a little confused, though.  You can do the practice without any statue at all, no?  So it you have an unconsecrated statue, would you stop doing the practice until the statue was consecrated?  Or just not include the statue in your shrine/alter until it was consecrated?

Hey guys, and Brenda
you can totally have a shrine with as many statues that you want, consecrated or not... it does not have any bearing on your cultivation in my opinion... however when your statues are consecrated it purifies them so that the Deities will have a "clean" place to "sit" during your daily practices... they become "thrones" in a sense... so would you want your beloved Personal Deity sitting on a dirty spot? not really... it is completely up to you however they may not choose to visit your shrine and they will remain in the void during your practice... also there are chances when wandering spirits may decide to take up residence in your statues and consecrating them will "kickout" any transent spirits... i cant explain how or why this happens all i know is its possible...
so how come simply taking a photo of your shrine can be used to be blessed by a Master? To me a photo is nothing other than a tanka in a sense... the photo is a representation of a location... a physical phone number of sorts... besides that Masters have unfathomable Dharma powers and blessings have no limits...
      hope this helps

Regarding the Great Compassion Mantra Water.  Can it be chanted by somebody else, or does it have to be chanted by the practitioner him/herself?  That is, can I ask someone to chant the Great Compassion Sutra 49x over the water that I would use for the Vajrasattva practice.  (I haven't memorize it yet so it would take me much longer and I also don't think it would be as effective if I did not memorize it.)

I am feeling a litle confused.
How does the Vajrasattva practice have anything to do with
the water?

I use blessed water all the time, by putting in a small donation for it at temple, for use at home.

Brenda,
i dont think tbsnkid meant to cross vajrasattva practice with the Great Compassion Dharni Mantra & its water... and if he did accidently link the two... well they are seperate practices just to clear things up...

to answer the question about the water... someone else can chant the Great Compassion Dharni Mantra to empower the water for you and you can then use it... however there are many other things to remember about the water and its container... and i believe you dont have to actually have the mantra memorized for it to be effective... afterall how else do you expect to memorize it?

         1. if you drink directly from the container that is holding the water after it has been empowered it will "polute" the rest of the water... the way to avoid this is to pour out small amounts into another container before drinking or using it...
         2. you can also (like Brenda mentioned) recieve Great Compassion Mantra water from your local temple and its effectiveness can be even better than if oneself were to empower it with your own dharma power after the proper recitation...
         3. if you are getting low... if you dont fully run out but instead add new water to what is left in the container, i believe the newly added water will instantly become blessed Great Compassion Dharni Mantra water...

follow all these steps and youll never run out of blessed water and over time the water inside can be very effective in all its uses...

I remember Master Samantha suggesting that one chants 21x times the Great Compassion Mantra to bless the water...perhaps that is a little shorter than reciting it 49x.
As well, she said that one can transform running tap water into Great Compassion Water for use of brushing one's teeth, washing one's face, and taking a shower as long as one recites the mantra 21x, visualizes Kuan Yin in front of them and the tap turning into her vase. The water which runs from the tap is then coming out of the vase. After chanting the 21x, there is one more mantra to recite (but I forgot it) and the running tap water will become Great Compassionate water.
This is her secret for having such beautiful skin and bright complexion.

Where can I get the Great Compassion dharani mantra? do they have it in chinese pin yin?
Lyciss09/15/02 at 14:55:57#10Re: Vajrasattva Consecration & Great Compassion
i remember now... i understand now why tbsnkid mentioned the water for the Vajrasattva practice... it says in one part of the practice to sprinkle the Great Compassion Mantra Water over your practice site...
i think if it is Great Compassion Mantra Water then it doesnt really matter who empowered it by reciting the mantra... to bless the water for someone i would think is a great blessing and generosity...

Does that require empowerment?
