Lyciss.
That must have been thrilling!
It's nice to get to know our dharma brothers and sisters from all over the world. :)
Lyciss09/02/02 at 07:28:02#3Re: Chat room Chat...Yea Bren,
he seems very enthusiastic, possibly a little too much at times but still good... its interesting because of his age and very rarely do 15 y/os especially english speaking ones to be so interested in buddhism... he has checked out Padma and TBSN but i got the feeling he wasnt very impressed... he mentioned he wants to have a complete mandarin/english liturgy... and he also would like the Ksitigarbha sutra mandarin/english written phonics for reciting purposes... but all i have is the translation... i would like to help him out...

Lyciss.
I do understand his frustration. Thankfully Raffinee was only 11 when we started out in TBS and she started memorizing Pin Yin very fast. It's natural to want to do everything the way the others are especially when one is very young to be able to fit in more and especially when one has an affinity to begin with.
For myself I would like to have the Great Compassion Litergy memorized.
I did get a copy of the Ksitigarbha practice we did last weekend from Doug before he left. It has all the mudra's in it as well except it isn't in pin yin. He has a whole lot more stored at the temple. If you are at the Redmond temple and are able to find him, (the caucaton monk with the tattoo's),
perhaps you can ask him what he has here and where and if he has it in pin yin or can get it then perhaps we can help this young man.

Lyciss09/02/02 at 19:59:22#5Re: Chat room Chat...Thanks Bren,
he said he has been interested in buddhism since he was 12 y/o and he studied mostly tibetan buddhism and he mentioned something about finding out about a puja (i think) that was being held near him in charlotte and so he went and took refuge that day and when ever they have something happening for group practice he says he always goes... he also gave me a link for some pictures of the new temple there...
http://www.charlotte-tbs.org
there is a photo with him in it if you click under the charlotte Service link and click on the fourth photo on the top row, counting from left to right... he is the one on the end near the left side of the photo, the tall kid... lol
sounds like he wants to become a very "active" member at his temple to help other english speaking... jus thought id share...

Lyciss.
Thank you for the feedback.
Please E-mail me his name and E-mail address and location.
I will add him to my list of people in obscure places that only a few or no students are.
Thank you.
Bren

While you are adding names of students in obscure places, please add mine to that list. I live in Central Florida (Ocala)where the nearest TBS Temple is in the Miami area (some 250 miles away). I survive by constant cultivation, by learning from others around the world and by reading and re-reading the books that have been translated into English. I could use some guidance with learning Chinese, since I have been told that there is greater understanding of Grand Masters teachings to be found in the original Chinese text.

Lyciss09/07/02 at 23:27:59#9Re: Chat room Chat...Hey Bren,
i was fortunate enough to meet Doug tonight at temple... we talked for a bit but i didnt want to burden him with feeling that he needed to remember me and everything i was saying... he did mention that he has lots of practices in english and offered to give me some next weekend... i didnt ask for anything specific tho, so i think he might just give me the four preliminaries, but im not completely sure... also for the last couple of days ive been going to 11am practice but im not sure exactly what practice it is and there was no one around to really fill me in... i mentioned it to Doug and i think he will try to find out for me, but its hard when you dont really know what to look for... anyways i thought id mention it to you...

Hey Lyciss!

This is great!
Thank you very much!
I am sure Doug is very happy to meet another English
speaking person. I am sure he will remember you as
well as attempt to find out as much as he can for you.
alenachan09/08/02 at 21:47:42#13Re: Chat room Chat...Hello Lyciss,
Can you tell the 15 yr old kid from charlotte to email if possible. I have met him before at a recent ceremony. We have talked briefly he seemed very charming kid and noblelike. The Atlanta and charlotte chapters are working closely and I need to talk to him. I dont have his email or contact #. If you may, can you help to inform him about me? Thank you!
