I was wondering if any of you had a picture of how to perform Red Jhambala's mudra?
Thank You

celestialmaiden09/03/02 at 21:25:34#4Re: How to perform this mudra?I was trying to search for it on the internet under "red jhambala mudra" on Msn and the first result I got was "Mimosa's Dictionary" but I still could not find it. Finally I posted it on Padmakumara and it is ironic that Mimosa is also the first one to reply with my answer. Thanks Mimosa!

mimosa09/03/02 at 21:42:59#5Re: How to perform this mudra?Ah, I practiced the magnetization practice. Red Jambhala was extremely powerful and granted my wish.
The only problem was that the mantra was soo long...but, it was really worth the effort!!
really!! seriously!!!
good luck to you!!!
I think that there are other pracitces, but that was the mudra I use.
I just located my dictionary from msn search! Boy! scary!

celestialmaiden09/03/02 at 22:30:39#6Re: How to perform this mudra?Mimosa,
I want to practice the magnetization practice too. I went for spiritual consultation with Master Samantha and she asked me to practice the magnetization practice.
I picked up a copy of an old red jambhala homa ceremony instruction booklet...which was all I could find in english. Do you have the procedures for this practice? You said that the mantra is really long...but the one in my practice book is really short "Om ga na ba dee yeh so ha". Perhaps I have the wrong practice book.
I received the empowerment a long time ago and remember practicing it at the temple but it is all so vague. Also, I perform the practice for 7 days right?
I have purchased all the offerings today...even boiled the water for the tea which is already cold now...so now I am just waiting to start the practice.
mimosa09/04/02 at 00:44:33#7Re: How to perform this mudra?spiritual consultation with Master Samantha and she asked me to practice the magnetization practice.
#she was also the one that taught me that practice.
I practiced because at that time I needed some special help.
It turned out so well, the person became my life-time friend!!
It was a long long manta, I recited 3 months for it! but, a good long-time friend! helped me soo much!! too worthy it!!!
instruction booklet...which was all I could find in english. Do you have the procedures for this practice?
#I barely remember the practice, because I put my concentration on the mantra! I recited the 100,000 long mantra in 1 moths, an impossible task!! I remember that I did it everwhere!! boy..but impossible task brought wonderful result!!
practice book is really short "Om ga na ba dee yeh so ha". Perhaps I have the wrong practice book.
#you are reciting the short version, I think that it should be fine if master says okay
practicing it at the temple but it is all so vague. Also, I perform the practice for 7 days right?
##yes!
water for the tea which is already cold now...so now I am just waiting to start the practice.
#good luck
mantra recitiation is very important. After 7-days practice, I wish that you will receive a good result. If not, dont give it up. YOu MUST recite the mantra first and then do again!!

celestialmaiden09/04/02 at 14:54:37#8Re: How to perform this mudra?Oh I see now...wow 100,000x is not an easy task to accomplish in 1 month!! You are so diligent.
Last night I started my first session out of seven of the magnetization practice. Indeed, it is a very powerful practice. I could feel the strong presence of the Red Jambhala and an intense red light blessing. My visualizations were also very clear...usually they are cloudy but I must have had some help. I think these are all good signs then. I will try my best to recite the mantra as much as possible but I'm not sure if I can do 100,000x! I have 4x sessions to go which I hope to complete by the end of tomorrow and will work on the mantra continuously then. Thanks!
mimosa09/04/02 at 23:26:21#9Re: How to perform this mudra?celestialmaiden asked me about my personal experiences, I dont mind sharing it with you all. But, today I am very exhausted, so if you see any typo, please just pardon me :-[
**speepy mimosa...**
When I was in college, I studied Japanese diligently for 3 years. After graduating from college I suddently realized that my environment is soo English or Chinese. I would forget my Japanese in no time! I really panic. I can not express in word how much I love languages.....
That really bothered me. I could not attend any school to keep up with my Japanese because my Japanese level was high so most schools would not accept me. At the same time, I could not make friends with Japanese also because they like to speak English to me. To a language maniac, it is a great torture!!
to be continued..today I am too sleepy

mimosa09/12/02 at 12:58:41#10Re: How to perform this mudra?continuing...
one day, I attended Master Samantha's ceremony, she said, "Red Jambhala said if anyone can recite 10,000 long mantra in one month, his/her wish will be granted" Upon hearing it, I made my mind trying it. I wish to have a good chance to practice my japanese.
Reciting 10,000 mantra in one months is not kidding. I recited it everywhere...sitting in the train; waiting in the line; you name it! I was not sure how Buddhas could grant my wish, but I must give it a try.
One day, my American co-worker showed me a newspaper, which has a gathering news for SGI--the Japanese religion. I was curios so I wanted to attend it. The gathering was in English. I didnt expect to meet any Japanese. Sure enough, everyone spoke English, but I was there to learn about the religion itself anyway.
When I stood up and was ready to leave, a little baby was crying next to me. Ah...How cute. The baby was on my way, so I could not move. Then, a young mother rushed up to me to bring her baby away. She was new to the country, so could not say much to me. She looked apologetical and kept saying "Sorry! sorry!!" I recognized her Japanese accent, so I said to her in Japanese, "Dont worry about it, it is okay. It is okay"
She was surprised that I could speak Japanese. She then told me that she just came to USA and wanted to learn English. Ah! what a perfect chance! So..I asked her if I could teach her English and she could teach me Japanese in return. She was very happy about it!
The amazing part was that she was not just a language partner to me, she has becom a life time friend to me. That one year I was in San Francisco, our friendship grew and her husband and children and I also developed special freindship.
I helped her family to settle in USA, and her family helped me when I didnt have a place to live (some housing rental problem) We also went through many difficult time together (when she lost her second child; when my mother had cancer)
When I left SF, I was very very sad. Too hard to leave such a nice friend. Perhaps, becasue of her, I like Japanese more. In Japanese, there is a word called "yasashi", which is equivalent to gentlness/kindness in English. I wish to be a yasashi woman, always care about others and comfort their hearts. In that regard, I am quite traditional :-)
I asked for a language partner, but Red Jambhala bestowed a life-time friend to me in return. If that is not great blessing, what is it?
I live in LA for 8 years already. I hardly make any friend, friendship to me is very precious. I flied to Japan once a year for a short vacation to brush up my Japanese. No choice!
Now, I am thinking if I should ask for the same wish again!
NOt easy though..really...a good friend takes many lives of good karma!!

Lyciss09/12/02 at 14:45:30#11Re: How to perform this mudra?Mimosa,
thanks for sharing, its very inspirational... and thats such a good wish too... sometimes i think about what sort of wishes to make, and i wonder if im being to self steered with some... like for quite some time ive been having to deal with no significant relationship... even if i tried to initated one, it wouldnt work at all... they would always not be interested... i realized this must be some karma and ive been dealing with it for sometime... i even discovered its a blessing in a way... gives me more time to do cultivation without worries of forgetting important plans... :) i do tend to do this but its not intentional... (ok i jus made myself less attractive, oh well) anyways i think my karma is now changing because now for the last few days girls have been basicly "throwing" themselves at me, flirting and what not... but i dont think i even made such a wish and now im totally not interested... ive decided that its fretless to date someone that doesnt atleast hold some buddhist views... not that its important but its just a trait that id like to see in them... i feel that if they dont atleast have this then im cheating myself...
so sometimes what you wish for may bring on another type of suffering and not necessarly solve your stress... it may just move it around... what i like to wish for is health so i can keep practicing the Dharma and have firmness in it and develope my mind state to that of a bodhisattva (like Ksitigarbha) :) but im not trying to say what you wish for is wrong because if its what you would like and if your karma is right for it then who am i to say that was a bad wish? so i hope no one feels like im challenging anything when it comes to wishes... i just wanted to share my personal outlook... and i really would like to learn Mandarin so maybe i should practice this and make that wish...

celestialmaiden09/13/02 at 13:40:42#13Re: How to perform this mudra?Lately I have been trying to pursue a relationship and everytime I prayed I would ask for a magnetization blessing. Day in and day out, I would cultivate with only one wish in mind. I closed the door behind me and immersed myself in cultivation and after two months I got used to living a life of solitude.
I now wonder that if my wish came true, would I lose the stability and independence I worked so hard for. When I lost the relationship I gained spiritual cultivation. But my perspective has changed so much in 2 months. I realized that the only reason I suffer is because I hold onto my one wish so I am working on detaching from my wish. I am also independent enough to realize that I should only pursue a relationship for the right reasons....and not to rely on the significant other for all my support. While I still have feelings for this person I learned to let him go....and strange thing is that wherever I go nowadays, it seems like he keeps coming back to me because I run into him everywhere!
I think that this is encouragement from the Buddha's & Bodhisattva's telling me that this person is near and that I should continue to cultivate diligently but at the same time detach from my strong desires. I just want to live my life now not knowing what is going to happen next because I strongly believe that when the people in a place are ready, when the time is right, and when the karma is ripe, then the situation will spontaneously occur and there is nothing that anyone can do to stop it! I learned this from Master Samantha.

Buddhafly09/13/02 at 17:52:21#14Re: How to perform this mudra?
I remember once praying praying for a car.
I didn't ask for anything special, just something so we could get from one place to another. Something that would help my husband to find work. Something that would only cost us a dollar. My prayer was answered!
My brother-in-law gave us their car for a dollar. I didn't think of asking to make the car an automatic. I attempted lessons with my husband and it didn't work.
At my wits end, I prayed again, this time asking for an automatic car, for a dollar. Nothing happened.
I was determined to make it to temple everyday even if I had to take the bus. I made a decision. I charted out the bus route, found where to buy a bus pass and the next day I would be ready.
The next morning a friend called me and asked me if I wanted her old car for a dollar! Yes it was an automatic! Oh course I said yes! I began going to temple all the time during the days then and practicing and learned quite a lot and my spirituality progressed very rapidly.
The point I am attempting to make here, is that I had to go through a process of helping myself out, not expecting the help anymore, letting go, to learn a very important lesson.
Can some of you give me examples of this lesson?

Lyciss09/13/02 at 18:38:54#15Re: How to perform this mudra?im going to share something i havent told anyone about, only some family knows... the first part just sets the reason for why the second part takes place...
::first piece::
when i first got my drivers license i had really bad luck with getting pulled over by police... not so much because of speeding but i neglected to get car insurrance since i couldnt afford it, or i didnt want to pay it... eventually my license got taken away and i had to walk where ever i needed or wanted to go... and my tickets haunted me from being able to get my license back...
jumping ahead...
::second piece::
i got my license back but i still didnt have a car... one day i really felt like i wanted to visit Redmond temple, but i didnt want to ask anyone to take me since i felt like it would be a burden to them and i didnt know Dance at the time... lol i also didnt have any money to ride the bus... i actually made a pilgramage from tacoma to redmond by foot... for those of you who dont know how far it is, well it takes around an hour, sometimes longer by car, on the freeway... it took me two days on foot...
at the end of the first night i started experiencing back pain... probably due to an injury i got when i was younger... the way i see it, it is karma too... i got in a fight with my best friend because i stole money from his brother... he was a very strong fighter and during the fight he manged to bend me over his back and it did some damage to my back... i couldnt even do exercises in Gym class the next day and for several weeks afterward... i think i was 10 or 11... i was a very bad kid...
anyways that first night i slept under a bride and my back pain was really bad i could hardly sleep that first night because it was difficult to move around even... i didnt know if i was going to head home in the morning or keep going... after waking up for the last time that morning i decided i couldnt no longer sleep and i felt pretty good so i decided to keep going... i noticed if i took it easy my back felt pretty good... i ended up taking a lot more rest breaks then the first day...
the second night i struggled to sleep because it was so cold but it really helped my back pain laying on the cold ground... by now i was too far to turn around as i saw it, so i kept going but i had to walk extremely slow otherwise i would hurt my back... i also had managed to pick up a 2 X 2 piece of wood about 6 1/2 feet long so i could lean on it as i walked at it helped my back from hurting so much...
i had never been to Redmond temple before so i wasnt quite sure where it was and not only that but i wasnt very familar with Redmond either... i had to rely on a really bad map that didnt show most of the streets and the address... i got to the street corner that was as close to the address, but from this four way stop you cant see the temple... i was in so much pain and so tired... i had not ate anything that whole day... i sat there on that corner and all i could think was i was in the wrong spot... i was so out of it with energy i didnt feel like gambling by walking around the area to see if i could run into it... i really dont know how long i sat there i might of even fallen asleep... all i know is i decided to head back, i was done i have given up...
i had crossed the street and was walking back up the hill along the stone fence side... i had no idea that the temple was right on the other side of the fence... walking up that hill i had to take a break and i happened to stop right in the right spot as i could now see over the stone fense and i saw the Ancestor room! and right at that moment the smell of incense hit me like a brick! oh relief! all my energy came streaming back like a recharged battery...
anyways i have a car now, i dont need to walk... :)

celestialmaiden09/15/02 at 21:07:56#16Re: How to perform this mudra?Wow Lyciss,
That is a good story. You have so much devotion to walk for two days to Redmond!! I can only imagine you walking along the edge of the highway and picturing you sleeping on the side of the road on a wooden board! That is a very inspiring story. I know that for sure, the Buddha's & Bodhisattva's knew your intention and led you to the temple and that it is not just mere coincidence.
DragonBall09/15/02 at 23:18:42#17Re: How to perform this mudra?Dear Brother Lyciss,
I'm so extremely touched by your personal experience that I am out of words!! You are exemplary to all of TBS disciples! The way you perservered till the end, your strong will and concrete faith, are all qualities that I am still trying hard to generate. For you as a caucasian, I am most impressed with your affinity with Buddhism, because being a Chinese like me, born and bred in a Chinese / Buddhist / Taoist culture, we have ample opportunity to come into contact with Buddhism and GM's teaching and yet the faith and diligence of some of us are at times questionable, but not you... Your role in TBS is extremely important, like it or not, you (and others eg. Dance and Brenda) are the best link between GM's teachings and the Western world. Spread the dharma to caucasians, as you're doing now, make them understand and (hopefully) be like you. A teaching as precious as Buddhism should not be restricted due to language or cultural barriers. I wish you great success in your Bodhicitta path. May the brilliant buddha light of GM forever shine on you and others like you.

Lyciss09/15/02 at 23:45:44#18Re: How to perform this mudra?Thank you Dragon, Cele,
i wasnt sure if i should even share this story with anyone... i didnt want people to feel sorry for me or anything like that... i also dont really find it super amazing since i didnt have any other option... if i would of had a car at that time, i would of drove... i think if someone were to have a car but yet still chose to walk... now that is something remarkable... or maybe dumb... lol i dont know...
all i know was, i wanted to feel "closer" to GM some how and i really wanted to visit Redmond, i couldnt see any other way... perhaps it was something i needed to "suffer" a cleansing of sorts... since im not fortunate enough to be able to read GM's books without the need for translations... this is what i call not-so-great affinity... i have to rely on so many people to become close to GM... i am at their mercy... but i like to see them as having great generosity like that of GM in making it accessable to me... i have so much grattitude but i still feel like i get everything, "second hand" it leaves me feeling like im always one step behind all those that can...
i think anyone else would have done the same thing and i dont think it makes me any more special than anyone else... just like Master said on saturday, "its Causes and Conditions" :)
so if this inspirers you then thats great and im glad you enjoyed it...

I disagree. Lyciss. I often feel that the special disciple will encounter more tests and carry on important tasks. Another word, if you were a wimp, you probably be a Chinese like me :-)
When I was a Christian, I remember that I learned something from the Bible, "God created everyone of us the way we are for a special reason." (something to the effect). Perhaps, we dont like the way we are, (I wish that I were Julia Roberts), but we are the way we are for a special reason.
I have met many many Chinese, they are fluent in Chinese. So what? some of them are just arrogant. They can write lengthy difficult Chinese Buddhism all day long, but I disdain their actions.
To attain Buddha doesnt rely on the language, but reply on your heart!
If you were not a native speaker, I would lose a good editor. Our translation is based on team work, everyone works together. No one at whose mercy. Without your help, papers will be full of mistakes. You may not think so, but to me, your work is as important as mine. I never think that I am so great. Everyone just does her/his best. We help each other out!

Do you want to fix up the article a little bit? so it is more for the newspaper format? Newspaper format is less wordy and more smooth. I am thinking of publishing it to English, Indonesian, and Chinese True Buddha News. Very inspiring article. I want to translate it to different languages to inspire people.
