hi.
i missed the Manjusri Fire Ceremony even though i registered and applied for it beforehand.  does that mean that i didn't get any merits for it?  must i be there at the ceremony?  i missed the blessing empowerment too.  thanks.

Hello RayChin!

Registering for the ceremony provides the benefits to those for whom you register.  You don't have to be there.

Now someone else can answer about additional benefits to you for actually attending (or not), and whether an in-person empowerment that you are not there for in person does the trick.  For this second one, I suspect not.

Hi Ray,

As long as you registered for the ceremony it should be OK.  The Buddhas know if you tried to make it and stuff just came up.

I don't know exactly how it works about the merit part. All I know is that it's best to be there and do the cultivation during the ceremony to get the 'full' merits I guess.

About the empowerments, I'm afraid you have to be there in person to receive them.

Master Allen said that those who showed up or registered for the Manjusri Fire Offering are very lucky and blessed because Manjusri can bestow great wisdom upon us, and that wisdom can help us eradicate a lot of our negative karma.  He also said that Manjusri blessed the whole temple and all those who showed up/registered with great yellow light.

So don't worry!  Though you couldn't make it, it's a good thing you registered.

I missed the 9/11 Bardo Ceremony today because I had to study, plus I'm exhausted from helping out for the last few days. Did you make it today?  If you did I'd love to hear about it.

Take care,

Lu
