Welcome to Padmakumara Translation News #6
September 2002

http://www.padmakumara.org is a non-profit site devoted to propagating the teachings of our most revered holiness, His Presence, Grand Master and Living Buddha, Sheng-yen Lu. By translating his most sublime Buddhadharma into English, we pray that you may find it useful upon your path and share with us your experiences in cultivation.

In this newletter you will find:
New on the Padmakumara website
Upcoming Temples Activities

New on the Padmakumara website:

1). In our Discussion Forum:  "I have a problem w/ faith".
"The Four Noble Truths makes sense.  But now I am doubting the Buddhas.  Like what are their motives for helping us.  I realize that a lot of people have gained enlightenment in the past and I am assuming they realized the truth through meditation and through  Buddhism or Taoism.  But I can't shake this feeling.  Please help asap.  I feel that once I gain great faith, nothing else can hinder me.  So I need it badly"

Have you ever felt this way?  Share the replies our fellow dharma brothers and dharma sister had to give to this person!

2). Latest Translations: Book 156. Whispers of the Breeze-The Joy of Inner Tranquility.
Read chapters such as: How to Settle One’s Thoughts

How many of you feel like your minds are always thinking non-stop?  Do you ever wish your distracted mind would just be calm for once?  Reading Bk 156, How to Settle One's Thoughts can help us learn how.

Temporary Manifestations.

We're always surrounded by notions such as fame, wealth, and physical attraction.  When it comes down to it, what do these notions really mean to you?  What do they represent in this illusory world?  Grand Master Lu shares some of his wisdom on these topics in Bk 156, Temporary Manifestations.

Book 156 is a must read for everyone!

:)
Not so bad!
How about creating a link to the highlighted sections, so if people are interested, they could get there immediately?

not so bad, but it doesnt have a selling point!

I meant...you need to read the public section and write a short article to express your opinion, some sort of feedback.

Hi Brenda,

I don't know if this helps, but here are some tiny suggestions.

For the Latest Translations sections, maybe you could add a few short thoughts to the translations you recommended.

For How to Settle One's Thoughts, you can add something like:

"How many of you feel like your minds are always thinking non-stop?  Do you ever wish your distracted mind would just be calm for once?  Reading Bk 156, How to Settle One's Thoughts can help us learn how..."

For Temporary Manifestations, maybe something like:

"We're always surrounded by notions such as fame, wealth, and physical attraction.  When it comes down to it, what do these notions really mean to you?  What do they represent in this illusory world?  Grand Master shares some of his wisdom on these topics in Bk 156, Temporary Manifestations..."

Another suggestion--
If I was reading the newsletter, I'd like to see some important days coming up this month, like certain birthdays of deities, etc.  Maybe you can add a couple of the dates w/events and then provide the link for the calendar so people can visit

Lu.
Thank you for your suggestions.  I have incorporated them.
Mimosa yours as well and Dance for the link work..Mimosa your call.

Lu.  I would love to do a write up about the Deities and the significance of them and their birthdays except we would have to be very accurate in my opinion.

Currently we seem to be having the only event as the Moon Cakes Festival...all I know is that it is significant in the Asian culture and it's 20.00 per person to attend in Edmonton.  :)

With Mimosa's permission, if anyone has time, to collaborate on an ongoing project about the various Deities and their birthdays..etc...please post.  :) :)

Also I would like to ask TBS news here anyway, as I seem to have a good rapport with them, to post something regarding having all temples E-mail or contact us with their monthly temple activities, celebrations, special visits etc.
