It's 2:45 am here now, and I am up to tell you all about a wonderful dream I just had. Now, dreams are just dreams. We shouldn't even take 'reality' that seriously, much less dreams. I think we need to filter dreams through what I seem to remember Grand Master saying about them, perhaps in one of his books, although I can't say which. (Maybe someone can help, if they recognize it.) The "filter" is that genuine spiritual response dreams will never be confusing. You will always know exactly what they mean, and they will never be distressing. And, if a person, through a dream or some other sudden insight, starts to think that he has reached some sort of 'personal understanding', it needs to be evaluated to see if it is true, because a genuine teaching dream will in no way contradict the normally taught Dharma. It will be perfectly consistent. But it doesn't matter. We all of us are like little children and, if a story makes us happy for a little while, so be it. Who's going to burst the bubble and point out, for example, that there really are no unicorns? Yes, there are. Well, personally, I have never seen one, but I'd prefer to believe that they are possible. And since no one can prove that something is not possible....well....
The dream. It was at the Seattle Temple. Grandmaster had come in to walk around through the groups of students there in the courtyard. He walked by me, and I put my hands together and bowed. Then he went over to sit by a Chinese lady. He was leaning against her, and I thought to myself that they must know each other well, then I realized that he was not feeling well. He got up and headed toward the temple, and was sweating and shivering as if he had a fever. His steps were unsteady. I took off my jacket and went over and draped it around his shoulders, and steadied him as he walked on. He recognized me and asked, "How is your business?" I answered, "Fine." We walked on and he told me "I sometimes wonder if they (westerners) will ever really understand. This empowerment today is called the Penetrating the Layers of Heaven empowerment, and I am doing it only because so many people wanted it......a quick way......like instant coffee! They don't realize that it took me three days of preparation. It is an extremely complex process and if even one step is left out or a mistake is made, one has to start all over! And even with the empowerment, they don't see that the easy way is really the hardest way and the hardest way is really the easiest way." When we got to the crowd of people, he joined them, I took back my jacket and put it on, thinking, "How lucky I am!"
Then, later there was some sort of drawing going on and several people urged me to enter, so I did, not really knowing what it was about, but going along with what my friends were saying anyway. Master Samantha Chou picked the winning ticket and said, rather surprisedly, "The winner is Darrell!" Everybody applauded, and I went up to the front. I didn't even know what it was I was supposed to have won! Alice took me over to a 'money tree' that had about thirty bunches of money all over it. I asked "Have I won all this?" Master Samantha translated what I said to the audience and everybody had a laugh. Alice told me, "No, since it is Father's Day, you get to pick three bunches. All are different. Pick one for D, one for A and one for D. So I did, and when some of the others unfolded the money in the bunches I had picked they said something to Master Samantha, and she told the audience, in English, "He picked each of the three highest amounts!" It was about $1900 in all. That was good, but I was still happy about the coat. The money was okay, but not nearly as good.
So, I will keep you all informed about this. It would not surprise me at all if someone sends me $1900 soon.  :) Already good things are happening. Today my brother gave me an acre of land. I offered to buy it from him, and he told me that he would not sell it to me. At first I was disappointed, but then he said, "But I will give it to you."
Tomorrow (today) I will find out if I am going to get a new mobile home that I applied to get. I have poor credit, due to a bankruptcy on my record, and no down payment. On top of that I am self employed. Not a good credit risk. But, after this dream, I feel very certain that things will be ok. Is it a spiritual response? It doesn't matter. I feel great. I feel lucky. I feel blessed. That much is real.

Wow Darrell, that is an amazing dream! I wonder if that empowerment really exists? just curious  :) What do you think is the meaning of it all?

celestialmaiden,

I thought about that empowerment too, can not associate it with any empowerment I know. Then again, it may be the special empowerment for Darrell! who knows!

celestial maiden,
I don't give this dream any particular meaning. It was just a good dream that made me happy. I'm pretty sure there is no such thing as a Penetrating the Layers of Heaven empowerment. It is probably just something mysterious that came up from somewhere in my subconscious. In any case, he just told me about it. I did not actually take the empowerment.
What Alice said about maybe it was a special empowerment got me to thinking. One time, not in a dream, I received a special empowerment from Grandmaster. I had not asked for it before, nor did I ask about it later. He did not explain it and I did not ask. He spent several minutes rubbing me all over the head. I remember being a little concerned later, because I know that often, if he sees something bad and can not say something good, he will just keep quiet. Maybe he saw something bad! Then my next thought was "How do I know that he does that?" Well, I finally figured it out. I was Grandmasters puppy in a previous life ;)
But looking back on it now, and Alice's remark reminding me, I can only say "How wonderful! No questions, no answers, no words at all." Now that has meaning. Dreams are just dreams. Whether it is the dream of yesterday while I was awake or the dream of last night while I was asleep, they are equal to me now. In fact, the dream actually seems 'realer'. And as for the 'doggy' empowerment, it is also like a dream.
I think I know what he was talking about when he mentioned the easy way being actually the hardest and the hardest way being actually the easiest. He was referring to Zen as the easiest way and Tantra as the hardest.
The other part, the money drawing, I feel, as Alice does is a matter of karmic affinity. Both Master Samantha and Alice are the two with whom I felt a strong connection from the very start. Master Samantha absolutely radiates kindness and understanding and Alice is probably smarter than you and me put together. At the Purple Lotus Society, eleven years ago, when I first had the opportunity to ask Master Samantha about my background, Alice was sitting right beside me doing what she does best....translating.

i am so touched by the story... On looking back, i think i dun even know i have affinity with anybody. Darell is indeed fortunate to realise the affinities and appreciate them. That connection is something to be grateful of and treasured!

I wish GM wouldn't exhaust himself like that. I wish he would take care of himself!

##Darrell, you know..I look back, most of my works are either done in oral translation, which I LOVE THE MOST or practices I translated here and there. I can never sit down and translate
an entire book. When I was in college, I was concentrating in oral translation. When I graduated, I was actively building up TBSN, which took me too much energy and time, so slowly neglecting the translations. Now, I am determed to work on the translations, but I am the lead. I have to handle the admin work, web design, and proofread. Translating a book seems more impossible..

I wonder if that is my karma. So the conclusion is that Alice is not smart. She is insane. She can not sit and calm down, just like to handle too many things at once.   :juggle:

Jack of all trades; Master of nothing!

Update:
I move into my new home Saturday. It is just a mobile home but it is large (80 X 16) and a nice place to live. A very quiet, private place. I look out my windows and see trees, and can even see the place where I took my first steps, and my secret 'hiding place' when I was a kid.
I am going to build a deck looking out across the fields, and this will be my old age retirement place.
It sits on the exact spot where my grandfather's barn once stood...an old log cabin from a long time ago.

I have to pass on another of what I have come to call "significant non-events", as opposed to 'non-significant events'. My grandfather, who died when I was five, had such a remarkable affinity with bees. He kept 10 or 12 hives, and would work the hives without even using any smoke or veil or gloves. One time a bee stung me and I was crying. He told me that he had a talk with all the bees and told them who I was, and they agreed not to ever sting me again. I never was afraid of bees after that. Yesterday, although it was cold and wet here, I was sitting outside drinking a cup of coffee, and a honeybee came buzzing around...very unusual on a cold, rainy day. I let her drink my coffee and land on my face..even crawling across my lips, and didn't shoo her away. We had coffee together, then she left.  All this may be meaningless coincidence. I don't care. It is meaningful to me and that is enough.
I had forgotten about this dream until I visited this section just now. Is it also coincidental that in the dream Grand Master was showing the same symptoms that we found out later he was actually having? I was thinking, that I really wish I still had that coat that he had worn in the dream. Then I realized that it was just a dream, and the coat didn't really exist, but, really, any old coat will do. You can have it, as well.
Just think of him and smile whenever you put your coat on.
Invincible armor! My grandfather was a sweet, crazy old man.
Now here I am having coffee with bees, putting on my magic coat and imagining that all the creatures and beings in the world are watching, blessing and protecting me. Gone...truly 'out there' :). But this is how I choose to be. Forgive me if I temporarliy lapse into sanity from time to time.
