Around about 4-5 months after my daughter and I took refuge, I sent a letter into Grand Master Lu with all our pictures in it including my husbands' picture.
I wanted to know whom our Yidam's or Personal Deities were. Also asking about my husband.
Grand Master Lu sent a letter back and said, regarding my husband, to visualize him (Grand Master Lu), standing on top of my head and standing in front of my husband and I, and Grand Master Lu sending white and red lights to us while chanting his mantra 108 times every night, then he will remember.
A few weeks after I started doing this Bert had a dream of Grand Master Lu smiling in a white realm, showing him all kinds of mudra's and he showed him a banner written in Chinese of what they meant. They were speaking telepathically. In the dream, Bert understood the Chinese characters.
It was enough to encourage him to take refuge soon after.
To this day, I continue the practice, and he continues to have very Auspicious dreams.
