I know that everyone is a volunteer and everyone has a very busy schedule. However, please remember that we are a team. A paper can not be published without your translating, editing and prooreading. You are holding a very important peace of article in your hand!
I especially dont like to change editor or proofreader middle in the book. The style may be changed, I really hate to do that. However, please consider that translators need feedback from his/her paper otherwise he/she can not learn effectively or apply the changes to his/her translation. Editor and Proofreader, your job is very important. You are the gatekeeper, It is up to you to show the precious teaching to the world.
How long is too long? Well, sometimes people have exam, work problem, so they will need one or two months off. That is okay..
But...you can not constantly do that. there is a period of time, one need to show steady progress otherwise we have a pile of work and never finish it!
Does it make sense?
If you are a translator and can not produce steady work, like I have recommended, take book 158. Very short article. easy to translate.
You will work with a group of translators to finish up the book. Same deal to editor and proofreader. However, if you are interested in a book, I do expect certain committment from you. I hope that sounds fair to everyone.
